Duomo Official Site vs Resellers

Updated September 17, 2026

Verdict

Buy from the official shop when you know your date and want the lowest price: since 1 April 2025 it charges no pre-sale fee, so the list price is the price. Buy from a booking partner when you want English-language support, a booking without the official virtual waiting room, or a combination the official shop does not sell, such as the Duomo with the Last Supper. Do not buy the partner's entry tickets for flexibility: the all-areas rooftop ticket (€26 both ways, $30) and the cathedral-only entry ($14 against the official €10, about $11) are non-refundable there too. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before, and reserve-now-pay-later, come with the partner's $29 skip-the-line visit, its Last Supper and La Scala combos and the private tour.

The official website of the Duomo di Milano is duomomilano.it, and its ticket shop is ticket.duomomilano.it, both run by the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo, the body that has maintained the cathedral since 1387. Everything else selling Duomo tickets is a reseller, which is legal and often useful but is not the cathedral. This page exists because the search for the official site is usually a search for reassurance: that you are not overpaying, and that the ticket will scan at the gate. This site is a reseller's partner, so the comparison below states the official price in every row and says plainly where the official option wins.

What the official website actually is

Two addresses do different jobs. duomomilano.it is the cathedral's information site: hours, liturgy, access rules, the news page that announces closures and evening openings, and the regulations. ticket.duomomilano.it is the shop. Both belong to the Veneranda Fabbrica, which owns the Candoglia marble quarry, employs the restorers and funds the maintenance from admissions, so money spent there goes into the building. In busy periods the shop puts buyers into a virtual waiting room, a queueing page that visitors regularly mistake for a technical failure or a sell-out; it is neither, and it clears. The interface is Italian-first with an English toggle, and the checkout is less forgiving than a travel platform's.

Price, side by side, with no rounding

On the official list, Cathedral + Museum is €10 ($11) and drops to €8 ($9) on Wednesdays when the museum closes; Rooftops on foot are €16 ($18) and by lift €18 ($21); Combo Stairs is €22 ($25), Combo Lift €26 ($30) and Fast-Track Rooftops €28 ($32). Through the booking partner this site links to, cathedral entry is $14 and the all-areas rooftop ticket is $30. So the rooftop ticket costs exactly the same either way, and the cathedral-only ticket costs about $3 more through the partner. Since 1 April 2025 the official shop adds no pre-sale fee, which removes the old reason for buying elsewhere. Where the guided products are concerned the comparison breaks down, because the $45 guided tour with terraces and the $125 Last Supper combo have no official equivalent on the pages fetched for this site. Dollar figures are converted from euros at the ECB rate on 17 September 2026; both the official shop and the partner charge in euros, so your card's rate decides the final amount.

Which resellers are legitimate

The test is not the brand, it is the terms. A legitimate reseller states the total price before checkout, issues a mobile e-ticket that scans at the same gates, names the areas the ticket covers in the same words the official list uses, and publishes its cancellation window. Treat as warnings: a price quoted without the ticket type, a claim to be the official site, a 'skip the line' promise attached to a product with no fast-track entrance, and any page that will not show the terms until after payment. Two more practical checks: the security line on the right of the facade is where every ticket is scanned regardless of seller, and no reseller can sell you a way past the dress code or the bag check.

When the official shop is sold out

Sold out on the official portal almost always means one product at one hour, usually the lift combo between 10:00 and 14:00. Before concluding the date is lost, try 09:00 or after 16:00, then try the terrace-only or cathedral-only ticket, which draw on different allocations. Booking partners hold their own inventory and frequently have space when the official calendar does not, which is the strongest practical argument for using one. Two things that look like sell-outs are not: the virtual waiting room, and the liturgy days when the official site's own header states that admissions and ticketing are interrupted until 12:00.

Recommendation by traveller type

Fixed dates, tight budget, comfortable with an Italian checkout: buy official, and buy the Combo Stairs at €22 ($25) if you can manage about 250 steps. Uncertain dates: neither entry ticket helps, because the partner's all-areas ticket at $30 is non-refundable too; the partner products that cancel free up to 24 hours before are the $29 skip-the-line guided visit, the Last Supper and La Scala combos and the private tour. Wanting a guide, or the Last Supper, or both in one booking: partner, because the official shop does not sell those combinations. Visiting for worship: neither, since the north facade door is free from 08:00 to 19:00. Whichever you choose, book the timed slot rather than queueing on the square, and note that this site earns a commission on partner bookings at no extra cost to you.

Frequently asked questions

What is the official website for Duomo Milan tickets?

ticket.duomomilano.it is the official ticket shop and duomomilano.it the cathedral's information site, both run by the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo. This site is not the official office.

Is it cheaper to buy tickets on the official site?

For cathedral-only entry, yes: €10 ($11) against $14 through the partner. For the all-areas rooftop ticket the price is identical, €26 either way, shown here as $30, and both the official and the partner versions should be treated as committed: the partner listing is non-refundable.

Are reseller Duomo tickets legitimate?

The ones this site links to are: the same admission, scanned at the same gates on the right of the facade. Judge any reseller by whether it states the total price, the areas covered and the cancellation window before you pay.

Why does the official site show a queue?

It uses a virtual waiting room in busy periods. It is a queue rather than a sell-out, and it clears; trying outside the 10:00 to 14:00 rush usually avoids it.

Does the official site charge a booking fee?

No. Since 1 April 2025 the official shop adds no pre-sale fee, so the list price is what you pay. Resellers build their margin into the displayed price instead.

Can I cancel an official Duomo ticket?

Treat an official ticket as committed and check the current terms in the official shop before buying. Partner terms vary by product: the rooftop, cathedral-entry and 90-minute guided-tour listings are non-refundable, the aperitivo bundle cancels free up to 2 days before, and the other four products this site links to cancel free up to 24 hours before.

Which should I use if my date is sold out?

Try another hour first, then the terrace-only or cathedral-only ticket, then a booking partner, which holds separate inventory. The ticket office on the square is the last resort and the longest queue.
